Plot Summary

Act One

The show begins with a group of modern day philosophers calling out their different life philosophies (“Prologue/Tower of Babble”) to the audience, before John The Baptist / Judas interrupts them to “prepare the way of the Lord”. The disciples join him in a joyous dance and are baptized (“Prepare Ye The Way of the Lord”).
Jesus approaches John and asks to be baptized. While this happens, he sings of his hope for the future of the world (“God Save the People”). Jesus begins his teachings through a series of games. Corleigh, a disciple, joins the teachings with a song of her own wishes for herself and the world (“Day by Day”).
The lessons continue, and Raylynn celebrates them with “Learn Your Lessons Well”, after which Gabby leads the cast with “O Bless the Lord”.
Jesus and Judas cement their close friendship with banter and more lessons before beginning a duet (“All for the Best”). Nayeli is moved by the lessons and leads the cast in “All Good Gifts”. The act ends with a triumphant song from Hannah, celebrating the lessons they’ve learned and the messages from Jesus (“Light of the World”).

ACT TWO

Act Two begins with Cameron taking over the pit to perform “Learn Your Lessons Well (Reprise)”, before Lily attempts to charm Jesus with her rendition of “Turn Back O Man”.
Jesus gets the disciples attention and brings the mood to a more serious note. He is then grilled by the Pharisees, who try to confuse him with trick questions, but he overcomes them. In a rage, he sings “Alas For You” to call the out on their hypocrisy.
Jesus continues with a more somber lesson, and the disciples interrupt to blame Oli for a sin. When they all rear back to punish Oli, Jesus admonishes them for being sinners themselves. The disciples are embarrassed with their behavior and Oli sings a ballad to Jesus (“By My Side”). He watches as the disciples are drawn to the song, while Judas prepares to betray him, and Jesus knows his legacy will continue.
Maizie leads the disciples in the upbeat “We Beseech Thee”, before the disciples settle in for The Last Supper. They enjoy the company and pray as Jesus sings of his hopes for the world and his followers (“A Beautiful City”).
Jesus leads the prayers at the supper and declares that one of the disciples will betray him. Judas runs off, and sings “On the Willows” while watching the supper from afar.

Jesus prays to God, conflicted about his fate, before being approached by demons. He casts them out, and accepts the sacrifice that will come. Judas appears to arrest Jesus, and he is strung up upon a cross. As he dies, his followers sing to him (“Finale”) and finally collect his body. A funeral procession carries Jesus out as the followers sing a hopeful, triumphant song of peace.
