Plot Summary
The Wildcats are back! They start the show celebrating the end of school. Troy shares that he needs a scholarship to attend college and needs to find a job, and Sharpay pulls strings to make sure Troy has a job at her country club – mostly so she can spend time with him and steal him away from his girlfriend, Gabriella. Troy then gets everyone else a job at the country club, too. Gabriella is the new lifeguard, while Troy, Chad, and the others work in the kitchen.
The gang settles into their new jobs and begins to prepare for the staff talent show. Kelsi had written a song for Troy and Gabriella to sing at the talent show. Sharpay steals the song to sing herself with Troy, offering a favor to Kelsi from her wealthy father.
Sharpay continues to plot to take Troy away from Gabriella, despite her brother’s warnings that she is taking things too far. With his new success at the club and potential opportunities, Troy starts changing and letting down his friends and Gabriella, which results in Gabriella breaking up with Troy. After Troy loses all his friends, he decides to do something about it, and asks for his old job back with the rest of his friends and quits the talent show, leaving Sharpay with nothing.
Sharpay then goes back to Ryan, who had been working with the Junior Staffers on an act. Ryan tells her that she always wanted the spotlight, now she has it. Troy ends up fulfilling his obligations to do the talent show, thinking that he would be performing with Sharpay. Sharpay realizes her mistakes and brings out Gabriella to sing with Troy instead. Everyone makes up and vows to enjoy the rest of summer together as friends.
