ABOUT THE SHOW
Seventeen-year-old Evan Hansen has felt invisible his entire life. But when a tragedy shocks his community and thrusts him into the center of a rapidly evolving controversy, Evan is given the opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to be somebody else. As his web of well-intentioned lies begins to unravel, though, Evan is forced to confront the fact that the price of belonging may be far steeper than he bargained for.
The show opened at the Music Box Theatre to rave reviews and struck an emotional chord with critics and audiences alike. It went on to win six 2017 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, the Drama League Award for Outstanding Musical Production, two Obie Awards, a Drama Desk Award, two Outer Critics Circle Awards and two Helen Hayes Awards.
AUDITIONS
Auditions for this production will take place Sunday 1/3 and Monday 1/4 from 6-9pm. Invitational callbacks for the show will be by invitation on Wed, 1/6 from 6-9. Video submissions are accepted; please review the requirements below and email to / share with [email protected] by 9pm the first night of auditions.
The initial audition will consist of a singing audition and acting exercise. The invitational callbacks will include dance, singing, and readings from the script. We will be casting ages 14-18.
Please note: Our plan is to double cast this show, with all lead performers joining the ensemble for the alternative productions.
Audition Requirements:
Please prepare a 32 bar (~60 second) cut from a song that fits the style of the show and suits your voice. This is a modern pop/rock musical, so consider songs from musicals like Be More Chill, Spring Awakening, Rent, Legally Blonde, Hadestown, Frozen, or The Greatest Showman. Selections from the show are also encouraged. If you are auditioning for a lead who belts, we need to hear you belt! Avoid musicals from very different genres (“Les Mis”, for example, will not tell us how your voice will fit into this show!)
Your audition should be memorized and show your ability to portray the character’s emotions, mannerisms, etc. Dance will not be done until the invitational callback. Please bring a device to play your accompaniment track on, such as a smartphone.
Please note: There is a $190 tuition to participate in this MainStage production. If the tuition would create a hardship for your family, please apply for a scholarship.
NOTE: If auditions are full, you may arrive and wait to be seen (we recommend arriving as close to 6:00 as possible), or you can submit a clear video of you performing your audition song to [email protected].
REHEARSALS
Rehearsals will be held 3 times per week: Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays 6-9. Tech Week rehearsals are mandatory and will be Sun 5/2 through Thurs 5/6, 5-9pm.
The first rehearsal will be Sunday, 1/10.
