Theatre Mom Dance Workshop

Calling all super awesome Theatre Moms! You’ve watched your kids dancing onstage – now you can share in the fun (in the privacy of your own living space). Workshop participants will experience a unique open musical theatre dance class that allows moms to enjoy learning choreography alongside their kiddos. Peacock Players Resident Artist Meg King provides a safe and encouraging virtual classroom that is sure to keep you laughing and sweating and will provide you with an opportunity to better understand the art form that keeps your students obsessed. Families that dance together stay closer together!

Meg King (Instructor) has been dancing since age 3 and has studied tap, jazz, ballet, modern, contemporary, lyrical, theatre dance, and hip hop. A fan of numbers, math, and science, she got her degrees in environmental engineering from the University of New Hampshire but has always rooted her passion in dance. She recently choreographed Mary Poppins Jr. and Seussical with Peacock Players and has choreographed and directed several musicals and dance productions in the southern New Hampshire area. She also teaches regular dance classes at The Dance Company in Amherst, NH.

The Prom Dance Workshop

Peacock Players Alumni Nicholas Masson is your prom date for this exciting professional dance workshop. Workshop participants will learn the exciting choreography from Broadway’s recent smash hit musical The Prom, directly from one of its Broadway cast members. Following the choreography session, Nicholas will answer questions about being a professional working actor and about being in the film version of Newsies and in the Broadway company of The Prom.

Nicholas Masson (Instructor) began dancing at the age of 2 and hasn’t looked back since. After attending Point Park University, he began his professional career on the First National Tour of Disney’s Newsies. On tour, Nick played the rolls of Mush and Bill, while also understudying the roll of Crutchie. After filming the Newsies Broadway Movie, Nick began performances on Disney Cruise Line, where he played Aladdin. Taking time to recover from knee surgery, he began teaching and choreographing. He went on to make his Broadway debut with the smash Broadway hit The Prom. Nick is currently a faculty teacher for Refresh Dance Convention, where he teaches Contemporary Musical Theatre.

Something Rotten Dance Workshop

Join Peacock Players alumni Emma Benson for a virtual dance workshop as she teaches some of the original Broadway choreography from the hilarious new musical Something Rotten. Discover the zany and stylized choreography that earned Casey Nicholaw a Tony nomination in 2018. Following the choreography session, Emma will answer questions about being a professional working actor and about being on the international tour of Something Rotten.

Building Performance Confidence

Peacock Players Alumni Darius Anthony Harper has taught this workshop across the nation and is excited to bring it home to Peacock Players. Workshop participants may prepare and present (if selected) a short musical selection (with your own accompaniment) for personalized critique and professional feedback. Start the conversation about what you want out of the industry and exactly how to get it.

Darius Anthony Harper (Instructor) began working for the Disney Company (Tokyo, Cruiseline) as a lead vocalist in 2007. After joining the Actors Equity Association in 2009, Darius would headline regionally through 2011 (Fulton theatre, Arkansas Repertory Theatre, Merry Go Round Playhouse). In 2012, he would debut in the original cast of The Book of Mormon (Chicago), and lead the First National Tour of Kinky Boots in the role of Lola. Credits include: After Midnight, and Cirque Du Soleil’ Volta (original cast).  Darius is pursuing a career in concert production and new musical theatre works.

A Whole New World: A Look Into Disney’s Aladdin

Discover a whole new world of performance with Peacock Players Alumni Zach Bencal. Workshop students will learn and discuss the origin of the Aladdin story through its development by Howard Ashman & Alan Menken, through all the iterations including the Broadway musical, and the new 2019 movie. Students will learn the opening number “Arabian Nights”, the original choreography from the Broadway stage adaptation, and will work on acting the storytelling aspect of this exciting opening number. Zach will also answer your questions about being a professional working actor and about being on the national tour and the Broadway cast of Disney’s Aladdin.

Zach-Bencal

Zach Bencal (Instructor) is a NH native and grew up at Peacock Players. Zach graduated from Londonderry High School in 2009, and (subsequently) from The Hartt School of Music in 2013 with a BFA in Musical Theatre. Zach musically directed the Off-Broadway production of The Anthem!, and also participated in the BMI Musical Theatre Writers Workshop. Zach has been a proud member of Actors Equity Association since 2009. Zach recently completed his run in the First National Touring production of Disney’s Aladdin, in the principal role of Babkak. Upon the reopening of Broadway, Zach will reprise his role of Babkak in the Broadway company.

Mainstage Audition Prep

Who could be better to lead the conversation about improving and better preparing your Mainstage auditions than the two Musical Directors that accompany auditioners during those auditions? Join Peacock Players Resident Artists, Sarah Evans and Henry Kopczynskie III for a tag-team workshop devoted to helping you better strategize and prepare your next Mainstage or professional audition. Learn how and where to locate good audition material, and how to further prepare your musical selections to improve and compliment your audition talents.

Sarah Evans (Instructor) holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music (Vocal Performance) from Muhlenberg College, and a Master of Arts degree in Music Education from Boston University. Sarah proudly serves as a Peacock Players Resident Artist, served as Peacock Players Summer Theatre Camp Manager for several years, and has directed and musically directed numerous Mainstage productions. She also teaches a private vocal studio at Peacock Players. In addition, Sarah serves as the musical director for Peacock Players Center Stage and Spotlight musical theatre troupes. Sarah is currently the Choral Director at Nashua South High School. Sarah also sings with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus in Boston, MA.

Henry Kopczynskie III (Instructor) is proud to serve as a Peacock Players Resident Artist. Henry a pianist, accompanist, conductor, composer, vocalist, and vocal coach. He has served as musical director for several theatrical productions throughout Southern New Hampshire. Henry holds a Bachelor of Music in Composition from Boston’s Berklee College of Music. Henry received multiple New Hampshire Theatre Awards for Best Musical Direction for his work on Peacock Players Mainstage productions.

Improve Your Improv

Jump off your couch and into the wild world of your own imagination! Infamous Peacock Players Alumni Nate Healey and Taylor Morrow will introduce workshop students to the basics of improvisational theatre, where every performance is made up right on the spot. Transform your living room into a madcap world of spontaneity, creativity, and intuition, while exploring the freedom of what it means to “think on your feet”. Through a series of engaging warm-ups and exercises, workshop participants will sharpen their inventiveness and embrace their limitless imaginations.

Nate Healey (Instructor) is thrilled to be returning to Peacock Players for this special workshop. Nate holds a BFA in Actor Training from the Hartt School and has appeared in a number of professional productions and tours across the country. He is a NYC based actor.

Taylor-Morrow

Taylor Morrow (Instructor) is more thrilled than Nate to be returning to Peacock Players to share in what can only be described as “the best improv workshop this side of the Mississippi River”. Taylor has a BA in Musical Theatre from the University of New Hampshire and has since gone on to perform professionally in theatres across the country.

The Casting Process

Peacock Players Artistic Director Keith Weirich draws back the curtain on the professional casting process. Discover all the specific details and processes that our production teams painstakingly go through while preparing to cast our award-winning theatre productions. Learning to better understand the casting process helps students to strategize and better prepare their auditions. Keith is excited to de-mystify and encourage the exploration of how the all the pieces of production fit together through the pre-production and casting process. Keith will also open up the workshop to personalized questions and audition guidance.

Keith Weirich (Instructor) has performed in professional and regional theatres across the United States, Canada and Europe. He has a BFA in both Theatre and Music from Otterbein College, and is a proud AEA member. Broadway and National Tour credits include: My Fair Lady starring Richard Chamberlain, and Victor/Victoria. Keith has produced and directed countless Mainstage productions for Peacock Players for the past sixteen years. Keith has received multiple New Hampshire Theatre Awards for Best Direction, Best Lighting Design, Best Scenic Design, and Best Original Playwright. In addition, Mr. Weirich was the recipient of the Children’s & Youth Theatre Award for his continuing dedication and guidance in theatre education and was recently honored with the Individual Artist of the Year Award by the Nashua Arts Council.
